Fun Diving at Gili Islands
For many years, Indonesia has been known as one of the top diving destinations in the world. With its rich diversity and over 3,500 marine species, the number of recreational divers visiting the area is continually increasing.
The Gili Islands are one of the most outstanding places to dive in Indonesia. It can be characterized by crystal clear water visibility and have a great variety in the twenty-plus sites throughout Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air that we dive (see below).

- Our deep slopes and off-shore reefs offer pristine corals, black and white tip reef sharks, rays, green turtles and pygmy seahorses.
- In the shallow waters, divers can enjoy bright colours, hawksbill turtles and an array of tropical fish. Shallow sites range from sandy bottoms with brilliant coral heads, vertical walls, wreckages and gentle coral slopes.

At Gili Divers, we dive 365 days a year and offer multiple dives per day.
No site is more than fifteen minutes away by boat and our boats launch from the stretch of beach directly in front of our dive centre, avoiding long walks to and from the boat in the hot sun.
In addition, we keep records of your equipment size as well as we set up and disassemble your gear and you never have to carry your own tank. Dive groups are organized by experience level and there are never more than four divers to one guide. We aim for sixty-minute dives, air supply permitting.
Fun dives can be booked on a single-dive basis or in packages. The price per dive is 35USD, including full equipment rental and guide. Packages of five or more dives receive a 10% discount and packages of ten or more dives receive a 15% discount. Additional discounts are available for divers with their own equipment, certified dive instructors, groups of four or more divers and Indonesian residents. [tabgroup][tab title=”SHARK POINT” ]This is always a very popular dive site. It offers a large diversity and abundance in marine life. Shark Point is a vast open dive site situated on the north-west side of Gili Trawangan and is available to all levels of diver certification. The site starts on a sloping reef, with a series of 3 ridges and valleys 18m, 20m and 25m running parallel to the shore, leading into the deeper water. Down here we can find white tip and black tip reef sharks, barracuda, tuna, trevally and blue-spotted rays. Pygmy seahorses can also be found in the sea fans if you have got the eye for them! Turtles are almost guaranteed to be found in the shallower parts (TURTLE CITY) among the soft corals along with angelfish, snapper, groupers, bat fish, parrot fish, trigger fish, puffers, surgeon fish moray eels and more[/tab]
[tab title=”SUNSET/MANTA POINT” ]This site, to the west of Gili Trawangan, is a gentle slope starting at about 5m and running down to about 25m. A large portion of the reef is marked by giant steps of table coral, which shelters small fish. Bommies with hard and soft coral can be found with cleaning stations containing sweet lips, groupers and snappers. On the deeper sandy bottom you can spot white tip and black tip reef sharks and stingrays. During the rainy season, when the water is rich in plankton, staring out in the blue you could have the chance to see passing devil rays or even mantas..[/tab]
[tab title=”HALIK / DEEP HALIK” ]At Halik, the north point of Gili Trawangan, the slope starts at 5m and goes down to about 12m. Beautiful formations of young hard corals are found in the shallows where you can look for lion fish, scorpion fish, mantis shrimp, fusiliers, banner fish, moray eels, coral grouper, bump-head parrot fish, green turtles and hawksbill turtles. Deep Halik, the deeper part of Halik reef, is for the more experienced divers. Here you will be able to find beautiful sponge and soft corals, many types of grouper, bat fish, and possibly white tip and black tip reef sharks.[/tab]
[tab title=”MENO WALL” ]The shallow part of the site to the northwest of Gili Meno starts starts at 5m and drops down past a verticle wall to a sandy bottom at 20m. You will find soft corals growing along the reef. This site offer a good opportunitie to spot turtles, lion fish, soldier fish, clown fish, groupers, sweet lips and snapper. Meno wall is a is one of your good options for night dives and you have a good chance to spot different kinds of crustaceans, crabs, lobster and reef shrimps but make sure you do not wake the sleeping turtles! Bump Heads and other large parrot fish, juvenile cuttlefish, scorpion fish, lion fish, hunting moray eels and also spanish dancers have been seen.[/tab]

[tab title=”SIMONS REEF” ]Located to the North of the 3 Gili islands, this site is independent from the reefs closer to the Gili’s. Simons Reef is an excellent coral viewing site for experienced divers. The reef is made up of canyons and massive coral mounds roughly in a figure of eight shape rising from a sandy bottom at a depth of 35m. The average depth for this dive site is around 25m. The canyons are all well formed and abundant in superb coral varieties, such as acropora, star and brain corals, gorgonian fans, plate coral and more. The channels in between funnel the currents, concentrating large numbers of bigger reef and schooling fish species such as snappers, trevalley and Tuna. It is also common to spot parrot fish, angelfish, trigger fish, sweet-lips and white tip and black tip reef sharks.[/tab]
[tab title=”DEEP TURBO” ]Deep Turbo, also for the experienced diver, has a white sandy bottom between large sea mounds and coral canyons. It is located in the channel between GIli Trawangan and Gili Meno. The Maximum depth is 32m with an average depth of 25m. This site has got amazing sea mounds and canyon walls in various sizes and?? an interesting collection of overhangs and outcrops covered in a variety of hard and soft corals including giagantic sea fans. Barracuda, tuna, trigger fish, snapper and stingrays can all be expected to show up during the dive and you will be entertained by the hundreds of garden eels on the sandy bottom. Leopard sharks and white and black tip reef sharks have also been seen.[/tab]
[tab title=”SHALLOW TURBO” ]The shallow end of Deep Turbo has got a white sandy bottom dotted with large coral heads with an average depth of 16m. Dives here can take their time and relax because the bottom rarely dips below 18m. Around the coral heads you will find large amounts of small invertebrate marine life. You will pass through varied terrain, including small channels with Sting rays and fields of garden eels. The sponge life is diverse and quite coloratura throughout this site. You will commonly find star puffer fish, schools of batfish, triggerfish, trevally and turtles along with a variety of interesting nudibranchs on this dive site.[/tab]
[tab title=”GOOD HEART REEF/GILI DIVERS HOUSE REEF” ]This site on the east of Gili Trawangan can be dived directly from our shore or by boat. The maximum depth is thirty metres with an average depth of fifteen metres. This makes the site ideal for divers of all expertise levels. It has a gentle sandy slope with an assortment of bommies and low-growing coral gardens. Good Heart Reef offers you the opportunity to see bommies and coral overhangs filled with soldier fish and copper sweepers. You can see green turtles and hawksbill turtles feeding. You may spot giant travellys and schooling barracuda along the deepest parts of the site. The shallow area of this reef is popular for??snorkellers.[/tab]

[tab title=”HANS REEF” ]This is a gentle sloping reef to the north of Gili Air with a white sandy bottom and various sized coral bommies. The maximum depth is 24m with an average depth of 14m. This dive site is suitable for all certification levels. Hans Reef is a must for macro lovers, as you will find the smaller and stranger marine life. Hans Reef is great for bat fish, angelfish, box fish, frog fish, leaf scorpion fish, spotted morays, pipe fish, mantis shrimps and a variety of nudibranchs.[/tab]
[tab title=”TAKAT MALANG” ]With a maximum depth of 40m and an average dive depth of 25m, Takat Malang is made up of a collection of large coral heads (Takats) arranged in a sloping bed, beginning with a plateau at 15m. There are about 10 major Takats, as if someone has been at work on the reef with a giant carving chisel. Each Takat is sculpted with overhangs, outcrops and swim throughs. This dive site will provide you with the same excellent diversity in corals as those found on Simon’s reef. The Takats are covered in soft and hard coral varieties growing on top of the stony outcrops, including some very big Gorgonian fans and table corals. The channels between the Takats are interesting, with a large concentration of the bigger reef fish and fascinating topography. The marine life is quite similar to that found on Simons Reef.[/tab]
[tab title=”MENO SLOPE” ]A drift dive along the west of Meno is usually quite a ride. You will drop into the channel between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno and descend to the bottom of the sloping reef at 22m. The average depth for the rest of the dive will be 16m, so this site is perfect for all certification levels. Towards the end of this dive site you will find yourself exploring the Bounty Pontoon Wreckage. The sunken pontoon is a large intact structure at 12m full of interesting marine life and teaming with schools of reef fish. On and around the pontoon you will find a variety of scorpion fish and lion fish, along with various nudibranchs and the odd turtle. Along the sloped reef you find an array of hard and soft corals with healthy amounts of fish life to keep you entertained. It is common to spot, turtles, snapper, trigger fish, moray eels, puffer fish, cuttlefish and octopus on this dive. Also another great spot for a night dives.[/tab]
[tab title=”TAKAT TUNANG” ]This reef located to the northwest of main land Lombok has been discovered only recently and is well worth a visit. Takat Tunang is a deep reef suited for the more experienced diver, with a maximum depth of 45m and an average depth of 35m. The dive site is a wall drop off (150m) with a large variety of pristine corals throughout the site. Different species of shark are commonly spotted here along with huge schools of pelagic fish, tuna, travelly, barracuda, jack and large snapper. Divers will finish their dive on a coral plateau at 20m.[/tab]
[tab title=”Teluk Nare” ]This dive site is for more experienced diver who appreciates the small and unusual things. In black sand, bad visibility and a lot of rubbish you will find incredible creatures much the same as you would find in the Lembat Strait, Sulawesi. Not many of the dive shops dive this site because it is located a bit futher away then the GIli Island sites. Keep an eye out for hairy frog fish, flamboyant octopus, sea horses, ghost pipe fish and much more An excellent dive for photographers.[/tab]
